Awesome, I was hoping to find someone like you. :-)

I was told by a tranny guy (owned a trans repair shop) that most of the remans
are not of good quality, and will only last about 15k miles, and that if one
goes bad, all the debris from the converter is disbursed throughout the
transmission, thus, requiring a full rebuild.
He's no longer in the business, so he doesn't have anything to gain from giving
me a false story.

Here's my problem: Busy 3-4 shift. Bulletin No 77-71-77 seems to describe it
well.
The 3-4 shift (or into OD, I'm not sure now) can take 4-5 seconds during cold
weather, the colder it is outside, and the colder the trans is, the worse the
problem seems to be. And it's not uncommon for me to watch the tach remain
stationary while the MPH increases.

I just changed the fluid and filter. Both were very clean, no converter looking
debris in the filter.

I did have a problem code that indicated torque converter or the TCS. And at
that time, I had 1 day where it wouldn't go into overdrive at all. Since I
changed the fluid and filter, and reset, no codes have shown. I intened to
replace the TCS, but Advance Auto gave me the wrong part. Doh!

First thing I think I'd like to do is replace the TCS. And maybe the 3-4 shift
solenoid.
However, I've not yet located a TCS (Autozone, Napa, Parts America, GM Parts
counter is next on my list), and I'm not sure which of the 2 switches is the 3-4
switch (both look identical to me).

If that doesn't fix the problem, then I'm thinking the converter is bad.

Previous owner said the trans had a full rebuild and new converter about 15
miles ago. Again, the trans fluid looked brand new.
I've had the truck for about 1500 miles now.

If I end up replacing the converter, do I need to replace anything else? Or can
I just swap the converter and fluild/filter, and go on?

Do you believe the reman converters are as good as a new one? Do they really
only last 15k miles?
Any suggestions for a company? I've talked with a guy at CSI, he claims they
are a high-end company as far as quality goes. $250.

Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!
Thank you very much!
Mike
