Believe it or not, 2 guys on the Olds list said that it's supposed to be inside the quarter panel to prevent fuel from dripping down and possibly onto a hot exhaust pipe during a fillup. One of the guys redid a Malibu wagon and said that it had the same part inside.
It's nice to know that I'm still discovering the extent of the damage that Ron did to my car. I guess it's kind of mo-Ron-ic to leave a piece like that out. Given the fact that many of my parts were never returned and many of the parts that were sent back with my car were not from my car, it's entirely possible that it's from another vehicle. If it is from my car, I'm guessing that when Ron pulled the left quarter panel, he removed this piece and forgot to put it back. It looks to me like it's supposed to support the fuel filler tube. It's about a foot and a half long and a foot wide. If you know what it is, please let me know. Thanks, John Nasta
