I would absolutely expect a junkyard to know whether it's a 8.2 or 8.5. I'd say it's their business to know!
I would also agree with what others have already said -- unless you're building a stout big-block running on slicks, a decent 8.5 10-bolt should withstand a lot of abuse. Look at most of your 11 and 12 second GN's -- most still have 8.5 10-bolts.
Don't forget the BOP 10 bolts (no C clips) I have one (posi) in my 66 Elky, It was there
when I bought it.
