If there is gas dripping on the inside of carb it could be a bad accelerator pump.

Sounds like it could be an intermittent vacuum leak
maybe a bad PCV valve or vacuum choke pull off?

Subject: [Chevelle-list] carb problem?

Hi all..

ok, I have a 600CFM Edelbrock carb on my motor.
It has ran fine since I bought it used.
yesterday, I start the car, it runs like crap..
today I check the fuel filter, timing, etc.. and everything's fine.
I noticed that if I put my hand over the choke plate, the idle would pick up and smooth out.
at any rate, I hopped on the highway, got on it some, and it cleaned up and ran fine.
parked the car, started  it about 3 hours later, running like crap again.
the electric choke is hooked up.
Any ideas anyone?
