Your post leaves me with a million questions. Chevelle or El Camino? I'm guessing Chevelle.
The Chevelle kit comes w/ 40 series mufflers, so what "crappy ones" came with "the kit"? The first thing in the instructions for the Chevelle and El Camino kits is to install the hangers that the mufflers' outlet necks hang from, and then hang the mufflers and tailpipes. You install the H-pipe *after* the mufflers. Then you match your headers or down-pipes to the H-pipe. Sounds like you did it backwards. Hi Folks, Quick question - last month I purchased a pre-bent set of exhaust pipes and the "H" cross-over for my 67, along with two Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers - which by the way just sound freaking awesome compared to the crappy ones that the kit came with. Anyhow, with everything up to the mufflers installed, it appears that the mufflers are too far back. Since this is a new installation, I don't have much to go by. They seem a bit too close to the control-arm brackets. Here is a pic of the layout: http://www.projectchevelle.com/carpics/06_11_04_exhaust2.jpg I tried to get an idea from http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/flowmaster/vids2.html After seeing the installation video on that '65, maybe it's somewhat OK, as over-axel pipe fit right in, as they did with the previous mufflers. Can anyone confirm? Thanks! -Graham 67 SS http://www.projectchevelle.com
