The travel of the shock would prevent the boing boing effect, and although I have broken a shock
or shock mount, I've never launched a spring (in my '67's).  In my '64 wagon, the springs were
bolted on the original 10 bolt, not on the 12 bolt I put in out of a '67.  Ed in SF

Not in 68-72. No bolts strictly kept in place from compression.

My 72 is not.  When I take the rear shocks loose and the rear end

drops out
