The 67 Nova was my first car, so that must have been about 1979. That car got T-boned and I junked it. My second car was a 1963 Nova that I bought for $300.

John, what year was it that you bought the Nova?  A ’67 Nova is going to mislead him, because that’s considered a classic muscle car by todays standards, and I’m sure he’d love to get his hands on one.  I’m with you though, my parents didn’t buy my truck either, I had to pay the car note, insurance, and the gas.  If I couldn’t afford something, my Dad made sure it was the gas tank that suffered.  I never missed a car note, or an insurance payment.  I did walk a few times, though, ‘cuz I didn’t have the coin to fill the tank!  I remember thinking how insurance sucked back then!  J

My parents never bought me a car. My choice was to either ride my bike 2 miles to the train station to pick up my dad’s powder blue AMC station wagon and then be there to pick him up when he got off the train, or buy my own car. Eventually I bought a 1967 Nova for $125, which burned as much oil as gas. My dad’s first words were “You’re not parking that P.O.S. in front of my house.” So, I actually kept it at my neighbor’s house because they had a pole barn in the back yard. I had a friend who was a mechanic, and he helped me rebuild the engine. The rest is history.
