About 1.5 inches. Someone had put one of these in my '65 Malibu before I 
bought it. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get a finger between the
tire and the *trimmed* wheel well lip. This severly limited tire 
selection. I had it shortened and now I think I can run 245-60R15s.
