Its a pain to drop the entire dash, but if you take your time, you shouldn't have too much trouble. As I recall, 1- Detach wiring at fuse box. The bolt is accessible from the engine side of the wiring harness. 2- Drop (or better yet remove) the steering column. 3- Disconnect the emergency brake assembly. 4- Remove bolts holding the dash to the body. There are several (3-4????) on the lower side of the dash. There are at least 3 on top. One in each corner & 1 in center. 5- You may need to remove the heating & A/C duct work before releasing the 3 bolts on top.
I removed mine at least 12 years ago. As I said, it took time but was reasonably intuitive. Having said all that, you may be able to access what you need by dropping the steering column, loosening the lower bolts, removing top bolts & tilting the dash forward.
