I have a 600 cfm Edelbrock on my '71 350 Malibu, and I like it very much. It was much easier to tune and was much more responsive than the 4150 Holly that was on it previously, although I did replace the intake at the same time (Edelbrock Performer). I have a manual transmission (4 speed), which tends to work better with a mechanical secondary. I also have the manual choke, which came with the car, so I kept it (easier to install).
The carb ran very rich out of the box, and I eventually bought new jets to lean it out, both in the primary and secondary circuits. I tuned it using an O2 sensor that I installed just after the header and read with a voltmeter. I highly recommend this if you can get someone to weld the bung into your exhaust. It allowed me to dial in the carb very quickly and check the mixture under all operating conditions. Very easy to change both the jets and the tuning rods in the Edelbrock.
