I would say it is, or was, in direct competition. Just the same as the Ford
Lightening SVT is, or was, in direct competition with the mustang. Both in
two different markets, more or less in two different price ranges, but yet
both can be made more powerful then the other. They each just offer
different things. The corvette has a premium for the name, the interior
(100x better then the Camaro), and things like that.

I personally don't know how they compared in the market, I just looked
purely at stats and features. For my money, the Camaro offered me direct
competition with all those other cars for a lower price.

You're right though, GM dropped their interest and investment in the muscle
or sports sedans. Once they lost the government contracts to the crown vic
and then let the 95-96 Impala's turn into what they are now... it was just
time before the Camaro went down.

Not gonna argue that the LS1 Camaros & T/A's aren't great cars. But I
dont think that a 30-35K car is in competion with one selling for
45-50K. You are looking at 2 different markets. I believe that
the Camaro died because GM just didn't want to make the investment.
It was time & they didn't have a new corporate chassis to use for the
F-Body.
