Your are not the only one that is paranoid. Thanks for all the answers I have the fenders off still, so should be able to find it. Hopefully it will match the last of the numbers left on the windshield vin I have the last 4 number there.

After you find it, make sure it wasn't stolen or salvaged at one time. I just did a "frame-off" on my 69 and found it also on the firewall, passenger side, near the heater fan. You probably have to have the fender off to see this unless you get very lucky. I also found it on the side of the frame, behind the back driver's side tire where it has straightened out after the wheel section. It may be very hard to see with the body on, but again, worth a try. I still have the body off, but hope to reunite the body and frame ...finally after 2 years of hard rust cutting, grimy, crud grinding work. I welded in more sheet metal than I care to remember. If you need pictures, I can try to get some, but I already have those areas painted over in one case, and "undercoated" in another. Good luck!
