Pete. This years Speed Search and the Auction will just add another nail in the coffin . for the every day type guy. who dreams to enter the Hobby..
let alone a young family type with a Builder car that needs alott of work and a total restoration . with the end product demanding such big $$$ the starting $$t are outrageous .
I looked at a 66 SS in Pennsburg-Greenlane area around X mass.. I spent two hours going over the car top to bottom
and meet with the guy the next weekend.. it is a 66 SS HT. Marina Blue, Black vinyl top 396 325 hp 4 speed , bucket seat ( black ) open 12 bolt rear
that it no other options... The top is rusted off and the metal almost pitted through,, the trim rivets are rusted through the sail panels, the bottom window channel rusted out that the glass is laying on the trunk ,the trunk is rusted out, the bottom rusted out on the lower 1/4's doors wheel well area and bottom of the front fender.. the speaker rear deck is rusted through.
The SS hoods front lip is rusted through looking in the empty engine bay , the top firewall to top cowl seam is rusted and looks like Swiss cheese.
frame is on the ground.. dash is rusted as front lower windshield channel, you can see in the car... has seat and console door panels alll falling apart from sitting . The engine trans are out of the car, I said not see them but were told original ?

I meet the guy the next week and the conversation went like this..." I have had many guys look at this collector car...a True SS !! and DO YOUR KNOW what they bring on Ebay let alone if I would take it to the Barrette Jackson (sp) auto auction. Soooo i know the TRUE worth of it when it's Finished.
. So what your Offer ? "

Mummmmm. for me.. it looks like a parts car..Sorry...... Him kind of SHOCKED... "Well you sure do not know Chevelles Values.". I have turned down 7,000 and it will take offers of over 10 thousand only .. the 7K offer i would not even start too SEARCH for the title.....

Thanks Have a nice day.. I say and boogie home.... E bay and Jackass Barrette....

MY .02..

Amazing, huh. What was even more incredible was that 1954 Oldsmobile "F-88" concept car that just sold for a Barrett-Jackson auction price record of $3,000,000. The buyer was talking "trash" to other potential buyers, letting them know no one else was going to outbid him for that car.
---------------------------------------------------------
I wondered if the guy knew that was going out over the air.
Was like daring them "bid the price up!"
The prices are like from another world on some of that stuff.
And oh yeah, "Boyd who?"
If you get onto some of the street rod/hot rod websites it seems he's not universally loved.
I for one hate to see six figure Chevelles, fine if you have one.
Not so good if you're out looking and run into the guy who's seen the high dollar cars on tv and decides that his could be worth that with "a little work" and adjusts the price up accordingly! :(
