it depends on the skill of the person doing the grinding ,
any gains in low lift flow will be a measurable gain if a person goes wild and makes the ports huge it will kill air speed at normal engine speeds as well as drivability, fuel consumption ect. ect.
so yes there are gains that could be made how good is the person doing the grinding
is the real question.

Dennis, Depends on the application(Pure race looking for the last .01). When the 2.19 or 2.25 and 1.88 valves were put in hopefully they made a plunge cut down into th ebowl area. If they did I would just blend it in if they didn't. Outside of that you would be chasing small gains for larger money. Most large oval ports with a plunge cut and larger valves flow very well. withDo any of you guys know how much horse power there is to be gained in porting a set of heads? I have a set of oval port cast heads off of a 454 that already has had the over sized stainless valves installed. I'm putting this 454 in my 68 SS Chevelle. It's got a 400 turbo tranywith 308 gears. Just wondering if it's worth the extra cost while I have the engine apart? Thanks ahead for any help you can give me on this....Dennis
