Tom, There was indeed a center support used and the center row of bolts attached the plate to this support. When I modified my 65 Elky to make use of this box, I replaced the support with a piece of inch square tubing, supported on each end by small welded in angle brackets. I kept all the original bolts in place, so when my box is closed, it looks stock with all three rows of bolts in place. Mike
