hey chuck sorry if my answer was wrong. but im sure i read
somewhere in 69 chevelle the hinges where never painted, and i have bought
gm replacement springs and them came bare metal, dip in oil, and i have
seen many used hinges, and none have had paint, and all have rust, i
suppose the grey zinc coating wore off after many years, and the rust crept.
I .know the rear control arms and frame all bare metal, rear end, seat
frames, it might be that some factories used some coatings, to protect
there inventory, during wet months, i guess this is a mystery . if i find any
proof i'll let you know ,,,,,,,, rick
