Just put an overdrive tranny in that thing and you can afford to drive it.  My little SBC with 6speed was getting 22-24mpg with the 3.50 rear cogs. Just installed some 4.11's and am really pleased with how well they work with T56. Doubt the mileage will drop much because the engine isn't pulling down so much in 6th now. 70mph in 6th now is right around 2,000rpm,compared to 1,650rpm with the 3.50's.
If you decide to go protouring,I might be selling my Global West A-arms and QA1 coilovers later this Spring or Summer,when I go Air Ride.
