Hey guys,

Just wanted to know the going rate for a TH350 and a TH400 for a 69 chevelle and what years are interchangeable if not all.  I have a TH350 that came with my car but to rebuild it seems to be more than what a local junkyard is asking ($175) for a TH400 they just pulled from a Monte Carlo.  Would it be better to switch transmissions now with plans to beef up my engine?  If I do that do I go with the junkyard offer or do any of you happen to have an extra 400 sitting around that you want to sell?  Anyone want a th350?

I wouldn't put a used junkyard transmission into a car.  It probably needs to be rebuilt as well.  I can get TH400 cores for $75.  Do you really need a TH400??  A TH350 will hold just fine behind a stout small block, unless you are planning to build a stout big block, then you will need a TH400.  A good rebuild on a TH350 should run you no more than $600.  That's what I paid for a street/strip TH350 with an ATI converter that I had built to go behind the 300 HP 350 in my 86 Cutlass.  My 70 SS on the other hand has a pro street built TH400 with an ATI converter and that ran me $1000, but it's bullitproof.
