The absolute best thing I have found, is to remove the carpet and pressure wash with a small pressure washer (1000 psi). I realize this is kind of extreme but you will be AMAZED at what will run out of that carpet, even from the places that you thought were clean! I bought a car once from a smoker, the car looked as clean as it could be, BUT it had the stale smoke smell. I removed the seats and carpet and pressure washed them, the water drained dark brown. All of these carpet cleaning products say that that "lift" the dirt out of the carpet where it can be vacuumed away (?) I just don't see how that is possible. Every time I have tried them it has appeared that I was just grinding the dirt in further.
