Don't the early trannys have a stud/nut holding on the shifter linkage and the newer ones have a bolt? I know the bolt style would have a possibility of either but shouldn't all stud/nut trans have ten splines? One way to tell.

Probably could run the transmission ID numbers and find out what year trans you have.
Odds are it's a 10 spline.
