If it is a stock carb it may have one of those solid filters at the base.

We just ran into a car with the same problem. After much thought....we found
out the people had a too small filter online to the carb, starving out the
carb!. A trip to NAPA and all was fixed!!

I agree with those who said it's probably a fuel starvation problem.  Start
with adjusting the float levels and see if that helps.
