I have two questions that have always puzzled me
1) Why are brake boosters (and therefore master cylinders) sometimes
mounted at an angle? Why are the brackets not such that they are
essentially level?
To provide clearance for items like valve covers, etc.
2) Why do they tell you to bench bleed a master cylinder on a bench vise
and not with it attached to the brake booster so you can use the brake
pedal to activate the plunger? Doing it on a bench vise is a real pain
in terms of activating the plunger.
Most times you will not get a full stroke using the brake pedal, esp if it's power brakes. You need to compress the pistons completely in order to get the air out of the cylinder. All you need is a big Phillips screwdriver to push it in.
