I hear what you're saying,Jon. The uncertain gas prices are why I've decided to keep the 350 in my car. I've always wanted to build an all-aluminum BBC but those plans may not happen. Now,I'm starting to think about an LS1/LS6 not only for their performance potential but for their fuel efficiency (and light weight,too). My 69 with 6spd and 4.11 cogs gets around 19-21mpg on the highway so at the moment,if it ain't broke I'm not going to fix it.

Clint, your Elky would be a ball with a BB in it. Think
about it it's not MPG it's FPM (Fun per mile).
And gas is cheaper today than it was in 1974 (inflation wise).
Look it up.
