The garage will be 24 feet wide with a 16 foot door. . The door will be on the gable end, under the end truss. I am having storage/attic trusses built for the front 12 feet of the garage. This area over the open door will be for light storage (christmas stuff, etc). Seismic zone ??? West Texas - never heard of any earth movement, but I've only been here 23 years. If you can help with the header, I'd appreciate it.

Header size will depend on the length and the load you put on top of it. Figure out what the span of the building ,roof materials-etc and the distance between each truss. I can run a beam calculation for you. Obviously if the trusses are sitting over the beam the loads will be greater than if the trusses are running parallel to the beam. Have you designed the building yet and do you know what seismic zone you are in ? Placement of openings can be hindered by shear panels.Larry (Z)
