I "believe" you have to have screw in studs. The plates mount under the head 
of the stud to keep them in place.

I'm contemplating installing these in my 327, and the
Summit page says machining is required..  Why?

Don't they simply slip over the rocker arm studs?
Someone pls tell me why things need to be made more
difficult than they really are??
