Thanks for your help, are you sure its not a 1965 or is it 1962. it has a two speed automatic in it I guess thats the powerglide trans. and also how can i get the most h.p. out of this motor. does anybody know what the max is for a 283. I would like to put a 350 crate motor in it later on, but for now i just want to enjoy what i have.

1962 DE 283 Powerglide, a/c- 195 - A X

1968 DE 307 man trans., 4 spd -200 2 A F X  are the two choices for DE code that I find.

Iam not sure what engine is in my 70 chevelle but iam sure one of yall knows how to find out. it looks like the numbers on the front of the block are  1BA110056   TI005DE. If anybody can help i would sure appriciate it. Iam pretty sure that its not the original engine. The vin. # on the dash is 136370A117339. So with these numbers could somebody please tell me what engine it is, and what it was when it came off the line. thanks  BOBBY
