Assuming my 69 Chevelle has the same fuse block…

Subject: [Chevelle-list] 69 El Camino dome light success

Today I finally got the dome light to work for the first time. This is significant because the cigarette lighter is on the same fuse, which means that until today I couldn’t charge my cell phone in the car. The other courtesy lights are also on that fuse, except for the high beam indicator and the idiot lights.

Anyway, the problem is that the repro bases have too much chrome metallizing on them. It's on the front, the back, and around the holes where the electrical terminals come through and where the mounting screws go through.

What I had to do is tape up the wires up to the terminals, tape off the back of the base (all with electrical tape) and scrape the chrome away from the holes where the terminals and screws go through. I also had to put tape around the shafts of the screws and up under the heads because it seemed like no matter what I did, it would still make contact when I tried to put the screws in. Anyway, I now have a working dome light and cigarette lighter. Can’t wait until tonight to see if the dash lights work. That would be another big plus.

Also, does anybody know what the bottom right fuse is for? The corner of my fuse box is chipped off and the name of whatever that circuit is went with it.

Thanks,

John Nasta

p.s. This is a pretty big week, first getting the starter and the power steering fixed and now having courtesy lights and a working lighter socket. Man, it’s almost time to worry about completely ridiculous things like heat and air conditioning!
