the jetta diesel I owned back in 84 was one of the best cars I've ever owned..mpg were in the 40's...no turbo back then..we'd still be driving it today if a 76 yo man hadn't tboned my wife and son and totaled it....I'd own another one some day.. thumbs up...

A 5spd diesel Jetta will get over 50mpg on the road and they have surprising performance for an economy car. The better mileage more than justifies the added cost of diesel,IMO.

Funny you should mention a VW Jetta because one of those with turbo diesel is a car I was planning to look hard at.

well i have seriously been thinking insead of buying a new car selling my jetta and putting the money in my 72 ss conv.i pulled the big block for now and replaced w/small block for financal reasons it is the most dependable car i have ever owned and with a quadrajet the gas milage isnt too bad ,i can work on it without a computer and its more fun than a new vette and not to mention the smiles it gits on the road
