A few weeks ago I spent a whole day shimming my
starter after having spent hours
the day before surfing the web for solutions
& trying to understand what was wrong.
Everything was ok for a while but today when
I tried to start her up...
"klack" the damned starter hit
the flexplate again :-(
If I crawl under the car and use a screwdriver to
get the starter to engage
the flywheel it cranks the engine like
nothing. Then it works for 1-10
starts and then it hits the flexplate again
:-(
I have a trickle charger connected to the
battery, it might just be
coincidence, but it seems to start easier when
the battery is 100% fully
charged, happy with life and "tip-top" (as
if the starter have power enough to force it's way
to engage to the flexplate?) But no battery in
the world is 100% all the
time anyway so this is a long shot?
All measurements are ok!
I know I've been pestering you about this before
but I'm out of ideas!
As far as I remember this never happened last
year and the mini starter is
maybe two years old (or less).
1. I had the car in a dry and clean barn this
winter but could the cold have
destroyed either the starter or deteriorated
the battery? (a few nights was below -4°
F)
2. Could it be that the battery weakens just a
tiny, tiny bit, but just enough
so that the starter doesn't have enough
power?
3. Have the solenoid gone bad so
soon?
