If it is loose it will make that sound.

A cracked flexplate will make a knocking sound. I'm not sure how a torque converter could make that sound.

Trooper, I forgot to mention that the knock is there if you put it in gear and step on the gas with your foot on the brake. I'm thinking the u-joint/drive shaft  would have to rotating... It would be nice if you're right though.

Larry,
I had that kind of knocking in my Yukon and it turned out to be U-joints.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] Torque Converter 101

I know this is a bit off topic, but maybe many of us can learn something.... My business partner has an 03 Suburban. He has been hearing a "knock" at very low speeds under load like when he is going up his steep driveway. He had his vehicle at the dealer for his free oil change, and when they brought his Suburban around, the driver heard the noise, which had gotten worse, and he said he thought it was the torque converter.

Can someone give me a brief overview on how a torque converter works, and what can be knocking?

Thanks,
Larry Shouse
