J-hooks was the best investment I ever made with the exception of my electric wench.  Don't skimp on the short ones, go for the full size.  As I get older the reach with the shorter ones is a bit much at times but still beats wrapping chains around the control arms.  I secure the rear and use chain binders up front.

I have trailered many cars over the years probably a good 20K miles worth.  I use J hooks around the rear axle and J hooks around the lower control arms in front.  Let the suspension move all it wants as long as the axles are tight to the trailer.  On fancy "coated" frame I will slip heater 3/4" heater hose over the J hooks.  Never had one come loose on me.

When I first went to the trailer supply store yesterday, my intention was to buy the straps that wrap around the tire like you see on car dollies. It was explained to me that I would have to basically install a ratcheting crank (not sure what it's called) and a D ring for each side so you can secure the straps to the trailer. Since we use this trailer to haul just about everything, placing the crank where it needed to go was not an option. Basically, I need to hook or wrap a strap around four points.

i recently moved three different times within a year i had to trailer my chevelle cause of blown head gasket i used the u-haul with the tire straps i travled from dc to carolinia then to ga were i am finally home ,but only had once about 20 miles from were i left were i had to tighten them up and i stoped and checked manny times i also see a lot of rollback drivers using them to tie down cars so im sure they make a set of those to work with a trailer after my trip i belive in them
