Mr. Anderson:

Pelle:

I was thinking about you. Rather, about your starting
problem. Did you get your problem fixed? I have some
of the same type of problems. More specifically, my
small block starter was never shimmed or anything. I
just put it on there and the thing worked. It has
started carrying on and making a loud noise lately as
I tried to start it. I pulled the solenoid off,
mounted the starter back up and and looked at it
engage. There is supposed to be about 1/4" or so
distance between the end of the teeth on the flywheel
and the shaft of the Bendix drive on the starter.
Anyone can correct me if I am wrong here.

My point, is that when the solenoid pulls in, it will
push a pin in the center of the solenoid that makes a
mechanical connection to energize the starter motor
itself. Well, in looking at mine, if the interference
in the Bendix drive to flywheel is such that the
solenoid can not pull in good, there can be an
electrical loss between the connection to the starter
motor there on the outside of the solenoid.

I was pushing mine in and out and saw a potential
cause voltage or amperage loss and the starter
stubble's. For example, a resistance of .05 ohms times
just part of what the heavy duty battery can produce
in amps, that may also add up to some of symptoms you
are seeing.

Just something I realized bout my own and wanted to
share it with you. Sorry for being so long here.

regards
mike
