I thought i'd chime in on this one.....i've removed quite a bit of sound deadening material from the floorboards before and found this trick to work quite AWESOME!!!   Try to find a place that sells dry ice in pellet form. Wear gloves and scatter the dry iceon the floorboard. The rebber like material will get brittle.....very brittle. Then you can take a pick hammer and break the material into small pieces, then use your putty knofe a pop it all up. Then throw away all of the gargage.
