A 9" has a larger ring gear than a 12 bolt, 9" vs. 8.875, not much 
difference. The big advantage to the 9" is that you can change the ring and 
pinion as a single unit, making gear changes at the track or at home very 
simple. The 9" takes more power to turn than a 12 bolt (parasitic loss). 
They are great rears, but I would not put a F*** part under my Chevy!!! 
Curry or one of the aftermarket mfrs. now offers a 12 bolt with the quick 
change setup.
