I have the same situation in restoring my 396
So far I have around $600. invested into the machine shop, cleaning,manufluxing engine and block,reboring all the cylinders to .30over, checking crank. Thats the easy part, I am going to purchase the rebuild kit for the engine, and that is going to be around $500.(Hopefully). The purchase of the engine with delivery was $900.
I think to restore the engine (doing it yourself) Will realistically cost you around 1000.
to 1500. It always depends on how you are going to rebuild it.
