One question is the motor the original motor to the car? if so and you want to keep it in the car. build on a budget in mind . one idea is to build bottom end up the very best you can , Ive always herd that the bottom end was the week point in the BBC. you can always build the top end later while in the car (but do a simple head job just to keep it right). But if you can do all at once is best. I built my 454 on a budget all at once, best motor Ive ever had, runs 7s in a 1/4 on pump gas(400hp) and i dont have to work on it every week end very dependable. I will be glad to help any way i can. Good luck         (Eddie Bumgarner 66 ss conv.)

Hey Clint.
Budget?  I'm wondering if there are budgets involved with this obsession we all have..Just kidding, I wanna make it right so I probably have one just not sure what it is..I haven't had to do this since I had my 1977 Blazer 400 redone in the late 80's..I would like to get a healthier cam, maybe some aluminum heads, etc..What all would it take to get 400+ HP? I would say 2500 to 4000..could I get a nice motor with that or should I get ready to hike up my skirt??  thanks everyone for the input.
