I think you have it backwards. I always get the reservations first
since the motels fill up early. Sometimes there are other events in
the area that will create a room shortage. You can always call &
cancel your reservations if you're unable to go.

company...We are all excited ! As far as motels-hotels go, we
stayed in the Motel 8 which is down the next exit. Outdoor pool,
right next to the mall. It's not the Baymont, but for our budget
and the kids, it was an excellent value ( Plus, I can park my, as
Chuck calls it "shiney turd" right out in front of my door !
