In my hometown
of Mastic Beach, NY on Gooseberry Lane, just east of Huntington Drive, there is
a Porsche buried in the ground. Unfortunately the guy did not dig the hole deep
enough and you can see the top of the windshield and the back of the Targa top
sticking out of the ground to this day. The story is that the son of the guy
who owns the house bought the car brand new and then went off to join the
military, and was killed. Apparently the relatives were so concerned about who
would get the car that the father felt that nobody really cared about his son's
death as much as they cared about the car. So, they say that he decided that if
his son had to be buried, his car should be buried too. Seems crazy to me but
people do crazy things (like putting a brand new Corvette in your basement with
no plan of how to get it out). This is not an urban legend. I have seen the car
myself, and I have given the names of the streets so you can also see it for yourself
too if you want to (not that there is much to see). Unfortunately by now I'm
sure the car is beyond repair. The guy just removed the Targa top and dumped
the dirt right into it, and it’s been that way for a long time now. BTW, if
that '63 Corvette in the basement is a split-window coupe, it really is worth a
lot of money. |
