I have 3" going back to a pair of series 40 Flowmasters then 2.5" all the way out the back. I haven't taken it down the strip yet, but I've got a moderately healthy 400 small block in my '68 and would imagine I could drop a pretty healthy big block in it with the same exaust with no worries.

Jimmy,
You could use either 2.5 or 3". As far as performance both will get the job done for your combo. I went 11's with cheap 2.5" mufflers. So the true decisions are based on $$$ available. I would tend to lean toward 3" and try to get it in stainless. Mandrel bent pipes are a must. Many kits are available that fit right in the factory locations. My Borla setup has 2.75" tailpipes and utilize the factory mounting points. I like Flowmaster but have heard very good things about Pypes.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] Exhausts

I'm in the market for an exhaust system,I Have a mostly stock 454ci .60 over, mild cam with a street avenger 770 , stock open chamber oval heads ,super comp headers and would like to know if I should go with a 2.5"inch or 3" inch pipe. The anyone has had any experiance with Pypes 3"inch crossover system with cut outs. looks like a nice system, but more expensive than Flowmasters. Jimmy C.
