There's an interesting story about that,Dan. In 1998,I was one of the first to run 20's on an El Camino. 20" tires were so rare back then,it took my tire distributor over four months just to find me a pair. I wanted a pair of BFG 295/40/20's but all they could find was a pair of 275/35/20 Michelin Pilots,,still excellent rubber,BTW. Here's the worst part,,those two tires cost me $920.

Especially running 4.10 cogs with a TH400. My 68 El Camino with 468, 700R4,and 4.10's would get 15mpg on the highway. That was with 28" tall tires, also. Tom must be an ace tuner.

My 70 was getting 15 mpg with a 500 HP 454/TH400, and 4.10's on the highway at 75 MPH at 3600 RPMs.  It's getting about the same with the 3.73's in it.
