I've actually checked all the metal I've replaced on my 69's with a micrometer (after removing all paint w/ no rust deterioration. The sheet I've tested was from fender, quarter, and trunk. All the original GM steel is 20g. All the after market replacements from both Goodmark and DII is 21 or 22 gauge.
