Well I pulled it apart and inspected the pump and found a piece of metal like some part of a retainer clip wedged against the bottom of the gears in the oil pump. also some small pieces in the gears. the oil pump shaft on the end where the dist goes on is cracked. I inspected the lifters all OK. The roller rockers OK the timing gears and chain look new I did find some surface rust on the bottom of the cylinders where the pistons don't ride like it was the motor was sitting for a long time. the bearings look good. I pulled 4 caps and 2 mains all looks good. I am going to put in new bearings seeing I have it apart this far. and replace the rear main seal seeing that it is leaking a little. I will post a picture later of the part I pulled out.

Thanks for all the input every body has giving me.

I have seen pictures of a roller rocker that lost it's needle bearings. The owner had to tear the engine down to find them so I would inspect them all while you are in there. I am guessing that the pump could suck one up thru the screen.
