It usually depends on how you draw the 6. If you start at the top your foot
will most likely change direction. If you start the 6 in the middle(where
the loop meets the vertical) your will likely stay in the same direction.
Are you sure you and your son failed? Many people have said their foot was
still going in the same direction because they did not feel the change.

Both my son my self failed your test and were able to keep the foot going
