I wrote a note in the Lateral G forum and several sent me this website that is supposed to explain all. I haven't had the time to explore. I'm probably going on another witch hunt. You know me Clint!(GRIN) I only run Royal Purple in my Chevelle, and you are right with the blower on my car, I will remain on a strict oil change. All the racers in the area use Royal Purple, but it's probably a local thing.
With gas so costly, it sure looks crazy having a big block like mine, but It was something I always wanted while growing up in the 60's and couldn't even dream I would be able to afford one some day! It's also a nice ego rush when people wave or give you the thumbs up on the hwy, plus people flock around and ask questions. Isn't this what it's all about!(GRIN) I saw my ultimate dream car yesterday! 66 Corvette Stingray, 427 with a 4 speed. The guy bought it for $30,000 I was told. It's Marina blue and in great shape. I know it's not number matching, but I would have wanted it to modify! I guess I just need to keep looking! Maybe one day!! http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!! -----Original Message----- From: Clint Hooper [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, April 14, 2006 7:59 PM To: The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Oil shelf Life Why argue about it,Dan? Like I said, motor oil isn't like fine wine,,it probably doesn't improve with age. We both agree on that. I still have a case or two of Redline 10W40 synthetic oil on the shelf that's been sitting there since I sold my last ZR-1 almost three years ago. Would I be afraid to use it? Nope. What am I going to do with it? Good question. It strikes me as overkill to run it in a bone-stock SBC. Silly? Probably. As for service life,I used to change the stuff out of my LT5's every 10,000 miles or so. IMO,changing oil every 3,000 miles is a waste of natural resources & good money. I used to change the Pennzoil out of my 91 Chevy's 350 every 5-7K miles. When I sold the truck last year,it had over 250K miles and still going strong. Unleaded fuel is much easier on today's oil than the old leaded stuff. A supercharged BBC like yours is rough on oil. Something like that is too important to run cheap, dino oil but that's strictly my opinion and I could be wrong. Choose wisely.
