Clean the whole fuel system. From the tank to the carb. If the carb had
gas in it and was left for a long time it is probably a mess inside..
Your seals and gaskets may leak - hopefully not too bad. Don't forget
the brake and master cylinder. The rest you got figured out. Good luck

Folks-
I have spouted off a few times about how I am going to “finally” get
my project started when I return from overseas. In keeping with my
promise, and my timely return in a few weeks, I need to start making a
checklist to get the old beast fired again after 7 years dormant. I
know every project is different, but is there a good list of things to
look for before you fire up your project and hit the road for a new
home? Can anyone help me out?
*A few specifics** –** may help**…*
72 Chevelle – 350/TH350 combo (tranny with horseshoe floor shifter)
Drum brakes (non-power) on all 4 corners
Car is 100% complete – full engine/tranny/exhaust/etc.
Holley 4150 650CFM Vac Sec carb with electric choke kit
Mallory Comp 9000 billet distributor/coil setup with Accel 8.8mm wires
Everything else pretty much standard 72 Chevelle “on a budget,” daily
driver in college fare
Car ran like a champ when I parked it in 1999 for the last time.
*Things I have already figured out:*
Tires are shot – need some junkyard jewels to get me to Fresno (new
tires for the Z28 rims will not fit the 17” rims I have lined up).
Carb needs the squirrel $hi* blown out of it. Will a 350 burn squirrel
$hi*?
Need to procure a battery – probably from my brothers 72 Camaro in the
barn
Doubt the radiator has any fluid in it anymore – need to
flush/fill/check for holes (and squirrels)
Change fluids (engine/tranny)
Check fluid level in differential (which is in desperate need of a
ring/pinion/etc.)
I want to head to my Dad’s house on a Friday in June (which Friday???)
with a bag of parts and a toolbox, and drive home on Sunday. Anything
I am forgetting?
FYI – the drive will be about 160 miles, mostly interstate (Hwy 99
from Stockton to Fresno). Any help you all could provide would be great.
Oh – in case you are still reading – here is my favorite….
