My G2X GPS based timing system showed 137 mph. I hit 147 with room to spare last September when I was there with the Corvette club. However, the weather was much better. The weather this last event was 90+, humid, and there had to be at least a 20 mph headwind going down that straight. Plus my engine was running way hot at 220 degrees. My home made electric fan/aluminum fan shroud setup must be too restrictive. I've never run that hot before.

I do lift early for turn one. The front end gets very light at those speeds and I don't have the cohones to take turn one flat out. It can be done with the right car and driver but not mine, or me. :) So I was slowing to 100.

Good guess on the lap time. My best was 2:09. My previous best was 2:05. But that was with better weather and a better track.

I'd love to run Willow Springs!!

Keith

Cool videos. Have you done this before? It looked like you were limited
early on, but towards the end you had some clear laps with little traffic.
Tell us more about the car and preparation for the track (suspension, tires.
etc.).

How fast were you going at the end of that straight? That is an amazingly
long straight, and it looks like you lifted early on a number of the laps.
When you had to pass traffic you looked like you really pushed it and might
have had your best lap. I'm guessing you did a lap in about 2:10, which for
a 3.1 mile course means you average better than 85 miles per hour!

I've had my Chevelle on the track as well, but I don't have any video. With
R compound tires I was able to pull 1G in a turn and average around 83 MPH
at Willow Springs International Raceway.

Although I've done this a hundred times, I never really paid attention. After
setting the timing gears on a BBC to the 6 (cam) and 12 0'clock (crank)
positions, does the cam gear end up at 12 o'clock when at # 1 firing position? My
neighbor asked and I really can't say for sure.

Both at 12 oclock IS TDC on the #1 firing stroke.
