first old car that I've owned that has HEI.

Take the coil out of the cap and put it in the new one. The lube you're
talking about is standard electrical lubricant like you use on plug wires.
Put a tiny bit on the button under the coil and put the coil back in the cap
and you're good to go.

I know this is a dumb question but I have never changed an
HEI distributor cap before and would like to know if there is
anything I need to know. I know that you have to spread some
lubricant somewhere on the upper part but not sure where. I
need to figure out why the car is not running well, so I am
starting with a basic tuneup, which it is overdue for anyway.
