Terry- I used the Pertronix originally as an inexpensive way to rid of points at the drag strip. Now most guys use MSD ignitions but I have installed several Pertronix systems in classic cars to keep stock appearance. In regard to DirectHits ( http://www.directhits.com/ ), I have only installed them in standard point, pointless converted, or newer computer systems. Their technical advisors can tell you about use with performance aftermarket systems, but I remember them telling me DirectHits are MSD compatible. The kit includes non-resistor plugs, Mag style plug wires, and the modules. They screw on top of the plug and are about the size of your thumb. Makes maybe 2" longer plug length. After installing them, I have to remove computer power to allow it to relearn advance, etc, since spark dwell to changed. A word of caution: They are not cheap. I used to pay about $90/4 cylinder & $200/8 cylinder but the price is up in the last year (what else is new?). Makes it a hard sell even with gas at $3/gal. I just know that every car I own gained 3-5 mpg, so they at least pay for themselves! I sold the set I put on my Chevelle last year and will have to pay $230 to buy another set, bad move!

Can these be used in conjunction with a 6al MSD BOX and Distributor ? Max rpm was supposed to be 6000 but we ran the motor up to 7500 for several years with no problems. We never looked under the dist. cap for 2-3 years, that's how dependable it was! > > > When I upgraded my 1968 Chevelle SS396, I used the same ignition and added another great product, DirectHits spark amplifier modules ( http://www.directhits.com/ ). These devices are really capacitors that store and compress the spark. I have installed many of these kits on customers cars in order to increase mpg and they really do work, about 10-15% gain. My personal cars/vans gained over 4 mpg. My chevelle mpg was up but main reason for use in this car was to gauge performance- from 14.2s 1/4 mile to 13.90s with just adding the DirectHits and sparkplugs right there at the drag strip. > > Steve E. > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > > > >
