The newer box has a longer pitman arm.  Once you swap the longer pitman arm for the shorter one that works with the Chevelle, your steering stops are off (because of the difference in length).  Therefore, you need to swap the steering gear end plate which determines those steering stops.  It doesn’t affect the steering ratio, just the stops.  I could be wrong on this but I’ve looked up a few articles that say you should do it… I just cant find one that says how.

I am totally confused. Why would you do that? Just swap the box.

Anyone know how or know where I can get an article on swapping the steering gear end plates between two power steering boxes?  I rather not lose my turning radius when I go to my new old Monte SS box.  At the moment, from the looks of it on the stand, I could do a right U-turn on a one lane road but would need a 5 lane road for a left U-turn.

Thanks,

JB
