Just to add a little info:
As Carl said, the fitting pictured is for the
trans. The fitting will probably go in the rear-passenger side of the
manifold.
The fitting for the brakes is MUCH bigger around. As Carl
said, it'll come off the back of the carb and will be about 1/2inch
in diameter

Getting these wrong (and leaving them unplugged) might be contributing to
your poor idle issues.

It typically has a hard steel line that goes into that fitting with a short piece of rubber hose to make the seal. The power brakes are off the back of the carb on bottom, at least that is the way my 72 is.
